Modern Travel, Modern Landscapes

Connections and Exchanges in Europe, c. 1850-1950

6th and 7th July 2022

Durham University

This two-day interdisciplinary conference will be held at Durham University on 6th and 7th July 2022. The conference will be in-person and we hope to allow for hybrid online participation. The conference will discuss travel writing from and about Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with particular focus on the themes of landscape and modernity. We welcome contributions from scholars in a wide range of disciplines and hope the discussions begun at the conference will create a lasting network for those interested in the study of travel and travel writing in the period.
